In 1968, Lloyd Bontrager developed his own unique lifter system for popup trailers, but that was just the beginning! Starting in a barn in northern Indiana, Jayco sold 132 trailers in the first year. Now, more than fifty years later, Jayco has built a reputation as a reliable, customer-focused RV manufacturer and sells about 32,000 RVs per year. Jayco was purchased by Thor Industries in 2016, but the Bontrager family is still in control of operations and the Jayco workforce is still about 70% Amish and Mennonite workers. In 2021, Jayco rebranded to the Jayco Family of Companies to better fully encapsulate the four divisions of Entegra Coach, Starcraft RV, Jayco, and Highland Ridge RV.
