Well, yeah, the short answer is "as far south as you can" but there are great things about camping in winter in Oklahoma. The brisk mornings are refreshing. The cold nights give you an excuse to snuggle closer. Winter evenings are made for campfires and hot camp-cooking. Winter days can be beautiful with a dusting of snow or viewings of winter wildlife. And there are fewer crowds everywhere. But some of your favorite campgrounds may be closed... so where CAN you camp in winter in Oklahoma?
Most Oklahoma State Parks have at least one campground open throughout the year. Often there aren't as many amenities available, and there isn't a campground attendant on site, but on the plus side, it is usually cheaper to camp during the winter season.
You can view the latest Oklahoma State Park updates here. This is a great page to check year-round. Updates include campground info, road and trail closures, fee updates and much more.
So, go ahead and camp all season long! We're sure you'll find plenty of beautiful scenery this winter, plus winter activities can be found here. Just remember to winterize your camper when you aren't using it!
