National Park Dream Trip 2026 - Day 4
Published on Sep 04, 2026
Explore Badlands, Wall Drug & Minuteman Missile Sites
Today, leave the RV at camp and head east for a day full of Cold War history and otherworldly scenery.
Optional Points of Interest:
- Delta-09 Minuteman Missile Silo — A preserved Cold War-era missile silo where visitors can view an unarmed Minuteman II missile through a glass viewing enclosure. No tour required — stop in anytime during operating hours.
- Delta-01 Launch Control Facility — Step into the Cold War with a ranger-guided tour of the underground launch control center. Reservations are required and tours are limited to 6 guests — book in advance, as they sell out quickly.
- Minuteman Missile National Historic Site Visitor Center — Explore exhibits and films on the history of the Minuteman Missile system and its role in the Cold War.
- Badlands National Park — Walk among the dramatic, painted buttes and pinnacles of one of America's most striking landscapes. Keep an eye out for bighorn sheep and prairie dog towns along the Badlands Loop Road.
- Wall Drug — Wrap up the day at this legendary, quirky roadside stop — grab a famous free ice water, a donut, and browse the endless novelties this old-fashioned traveler's stop is known for.

Travel tip: Visit the missile sites in this order — Delta-09 first, then Delta-01, then the Visitor Center — so you're not backtracking, since the sites sit along a 15-mile stretch.
Return to camp at Legion Lake Campground, Custer State Park for the night.
